The new model is the first smartphone with Vivo Co-Piloto functionality available in Brazil
San Paolo, Brazil - Vivo and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the availability of the GPS-enabled BlackBerry® Curve™ 8310 smartphone for Vivo customers in Brazil. The BlackBerry Curve 8310 is the smallest and lightest full QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone and offers customers premium phone features as well as access to email, messaging (SMS, MMS, IM), organizer and Internet applications. It also features rich multimedia capabilities including a 2 megapixel camera, media player and expandable memory slot and can be used with a wide range of other business and lifestyle applications. It also comes with built-in GPS and “Vivo Co-Piloto”, a robust navigation application powered by Vivo’s wireless service that provides navigational information for more than 150 cities in Brazil. Available from Vivo’s dealers and retail stores throughout Brazil, the new BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone is offered at prices starting from R$ 399,00, with a post paid Vivo Escolha 650 plan and BlackBerry® Internet Service unlimited data plan.
Vivo Co-Piloto leverages the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone’s built-in GPS to pinpoint the user’s location and provides them with audible turn-by-turn directions helping them find their way through the streets and avenues of major Brazilian cities. The service also allows users to track private and public establishments, including points-of-interest. Vivo Co-Piloto is both functional and easy-to-use, giving customers moving color maps of their immediate locale and the ability to zoom in or out. Another useful feature enables the user to see their geographic coordinates.
The monthly subscription fee is R$17.90 and includes unlimited monthly use.

The service covers 150 cities, including the main Brazilian capital cities (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Florianópolis).To start a route, the user provides a destination address, including the city, state, street and number. The service then traces a route with step-by-step directions. As the user travels the route, Co-Piloto provides audible directions.Users can scroll through maps using the handset’s trackball and zoom in and out of a map.The Search feature allows the user to define the particular establishment they are looking for (eg. shopping). A list of establishments is generated and the user can select the location and request a map, additional information or a route.Favorite locations can be stored so they can be easily accessed for subsequent routes, searches or maps.
